NASA's Oct. 20 update on lunar mobility describes hardware still in testing, not vehicles ready for a Moon Base launch. The VIPER rover is fully built and undergoing final testing at Johnson Space Center before its planned trip to the Moon's south pole in 2027. NASA also says astronauts have evaluated a full-scale mockup of Lunar Outpost's crewed Pegasus rover, while Astrolab's CLV-1 mockup was reviewed at Axiom Space. The agency says the crewed terrain vehicles will be used to map terrain, test systems and transport astronauts on future missions. Delivery and mission schedules remain ahead, and VIPER's science mission has not yet begun. These trials are meant to catch design and usability issues on Earth before lunar operations make them harder to fix.
