If you’d like to be blown away by an off-Broadway one-woman show, you have got to check out Montera. Written and performed by the incomparable, Loren Escandon.

Full of affirmations, innuendos, nuances, comedy, crudeness, charm, pain, suffering, joys, disappointments… revelations, and redemptions of the life of a street walker, Loren does not miss a beat with a larger than life solo performance.

If you’d like to see Latinos’ (or anyone’s, for that matter) best in theater, it doesn’t get any better than this. Trust me. I fell in love with Montera from the second it started and did not let go till it ended. I couldn’t let go, mejor dicho. Lorena and crew are that good.

By crew, I mean director, Marisol Rozo, guest director, Alberto Ferreras, and light designer, Miguel Valderrama.

Synopsis:

MONTERA follows the adventures of La Guiri, exhibiting the human side of the most dehumanized profession.  With comedy and fearlessness, her story confronts physicality, experiences, beliefs and dreams.  How does society view such a person once she has exposed her soul?  This piece is a human analysis of the oldest profession throughout history.  She, La Guiri, fearlessly carries the audience through stimulating observations.  Ultimately, society’s duality between the blame and victimization of women is challenged.

The show will be running from Thursday, April 3rd through Sunday, April 13th at the Iati Theater (64 E 4th St., Manhattan, NY 10003).
