Dear White xenophobes (and misinformed Latinos):
Back in the days (which was not long ago), the US had a RACIST immigration policy that only allowed people from European nations to come to this country “legally.” So please stop using that argument that “my parents came here legally, why can’t these people do the same and go back to their countries and wait?” Remember what MLK said about unjust laws? Hey, man, you already co-opted him post-mortem. Because, you know, a Black man is only good when he’s dead to you. Harsh. I know, but it’s the truth you’ve forced-fed us to throw back at you.
Which leads to this: The US foreign policy has been supremely caustic with Latin America. As in, you set up shop with the symbiotic support of corrupt governments and regimes. Force millions of men to lose their jobs while women and children work in sweatshops, but once those men try to DEMOCRATICALLY elect a government for the PEOPLE, it’s quickly occupied under the guise of dizque libertad. Dizque. Dizque. Dizque.
There was once white affirmative action. Yes, can you believe that? Oh, my God. From the beginning, land was given freely to your ancestors and taken away from Native Americans, but since they didn’t have a country or central government, who cares? Right. Right. Nice argument there. Tell it again. Maybe you’ll believe it. I would say that the affirmative action ended when your grandparents received those “free” homes up to the 1930s and 1940s, but you still benefit from this today, so your affirmative action is still very much alive today.
Yup. That’s what you call becoming self-aware. Now tell me that social media can’t change or influence the dialogue of the nation.
Tell your kids.
Sincerely,
César Vargas
